Photoshop CS5 Camera Raw tutorial
Tuesday, October 12, 2010 at 2:23PM Hello everyone. Here is my first attempt at a Photoshop tutorial. In this video we are going to take a photo of my friend Samantha and turn it into a more gritty and intense photo. Please feel free to let me know what you think and if I should do anymore of these in the future. And if so what topics would you like me to cover. The video is best viewed at at least 720p and at full screen.
Again please leave a comment and if you learned anything please tell your friends.
Peace

Really Good Tutorial. I'm not a big Camera Raw user myself, but I could see how to apply the techniques in Aperture even.
I was trying to think of anything I could even comment on for how to improve your tutorial going forward. Once my laptop fan kicked it, I had to crank up the volume on the video, so maybe bump your voice track up a little bit. As far as the screencast itself goes, possibly start off with couple of shots that show 'the look" that the tutorial is going to teach (so people will be able to say "Oh yeah, I want to learn how to do that") and then do a side-by-side comparison at the end of the before and after.
Anyway, I'm hurting myself I'm stretching so hard to give you something to improve on. Great job.
I always find photoshop tutorials to be more informative when the adjustment being made is explained, i.e. clarity adjusts the midtone contrast only without affecting the highlights and shadows. Then in addition to that an explanation of how to know if an adjustment is applied correctly or not, i.e. if you apply to much additional exposure, the highlights will become blown out and you will will lose contrast in midtones and shadows. Side note - I didn't really think that much of an effect was created. You basically desaturated the image and then applied additional contrast using a layer mask. Maybe a sick looking low-opacity gradient map adjustment layer or some mid-opacity soft light color adjustment layers back in photoshop, some additional texturing, something to give a more gritty feel would have given a more complete finished product.
Thanks Tremulant for the advice. Will keep it in mind moving forward.
This is fantastic, would have it framed and on my wall any day
