Rusty Nail Macro
Friday, February 1, 2008 at 2:47AM
Close up of a rusty nail. This was shot with a Canon EFS-60mm macro lens on a Canon 20d body and an off camera 580ex Speedlite with a Stofen attached to it to soften the light. The camera was triggered remotely to avoid any vibrations from the camera or from me pressing the shutter release. Macro shots really require a good, solid tripod. Any sort of vibration is magnified when shooting this close to a subject.
The Speedlight was held above and to the right of the subject. This placement added a nice spot of light on the wood behind the nail and created a dramatic shadow under the nail.
Minor adjustments were added in Camera Raw to bring out the nice green color on the wooden plank.

Cool photo, didnt know a nail could look so good.
Very nice. The green really makes this shot pop. DoF is a bitch on shots like this, and you hit the nail on the head. (sorry had to :) )
