Black and Red

This is the side of an old barn in a friend of mines yard. This thing is absolutely perfect for shooting. Lots of nooks and crannies. This was shot with the Canon 40d with the 28-135mm IS lens. Due to the nature of the building and the time of day, the colors were perfect. The hardest part to this shot was not having me reflected in the window. I'm not a fan of the the clone tool and I'm not very good at it so I really wanted to make sure I was not in the shot. I love how the red siding contrasts the drabness of the worn out siding.
I opened the image in camera raw and did the grunge effect adjustment to bring out the detail in the wood and siding. This is basically accomplished by dragging the "fill light" slider very high then increasing the "black" slider till you get a nice hi contrast look to the picture. Then I move to the killer "Clarity" tool and really pump it up to bring all the nice mid detail in the red siding and wood. Really brings up the grunge level. I then backed the "Vibrance" way down but not all the way off. This kept the red siding nice and deep red and desatured the already drab siding giving the picture an almost hand tinted look. A very very little amount of lens vingetting was added to darken up the corners a little. A picture like this screams to have a high vignetting added to it. I resisted this urge tho. As much as I love vignetting, sometimes a little goes a long way. Then a good amount of sharpening was added to really bring out the detail. Hope you like this picture as much as I do. See ya next time.
